28 Feb What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy and how does it work?
PRP therapy makes use of the body’s natural healing abilities to stimulate skin and follicle recovery. The process itself involves drawing a small amount of blood from the patient’s own arm. This sample is then put into a centrifuge to separate the Platelet-Rich Plasma, which is then reintroduced into the skin at the area to be treated. The separated platelets can be used anywhere in the body to repair and rejuvenate and we offer three of these cutting-edge treatments right here at VIVA Skin Clinics.
When this process is used as a facial treatment it is combined with a microneedling process, which both stimulates the skin and allows the Platelet Rich Plasma to be reintroduced into the body. The two treatments work in unison to encourage collagen production and increase cell turnover, ultimately revealing youthful, hydrated and refreshed skin. It can also be injected into specific areas to help plump the complexion, target acne scarring and blemishes and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You can expect to notice these effects after just one session but it may require 3-4 appointments to achieve maximum results.
PRP FOR HAIR REGENERATION
Similarly, PRP therapy can be used to effectively encourage hair regeneration. Hair loss is a common result of the natural aging process but for many it can start prematurely, cause patchiness and can sometimes be caused by certain illnesses, hormonal changes or medical factors. Whatever the cause, hair loss or thinning can be detrimental to a persons self esteem and confidence and the popularity of hair regenerating procedures has increased over recent years with surgical hair transplants being widely publicised by the media. PRP therapy is a lesser-known alternative that uses platelet rich plasma from the patients’ own blood to stimulate hair regrowth. Again, you may notice an improvement after just one session but we often recommend 6 sessions to achieve maximum desired results.
PRP FOR SEXUAL REJUVENATION (Male patients only)
A less familiar use of PRP therapy is the P-shot (Priapus Shot) used for sexual rejuvenation. This treatment involves injecting Platelet-Rich Plasma into the penis via 6 injection points. It is a brilliantly effective procedure when it comes to helping to improve symptoms of erectile dysfunction and has also been known to help patients with Peyronie’s Disease and Lichen Sclerosus. In some cases it can also increase both the length and girth of the penis. Results can be expected to show within 24 hours of treatment and patients may require 1-3 initial procedures depending on their individual needs. We then recommend maintenance treatments every 6 months. Watch our PRP P-Shot video here.
