PRP – Hair Growth

PRP is an advanced injectable treatment used to restore hair growth where thinning is apparent.
Blood is taken (usually from the arm) and spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the blood. This plasma is rich in proteins essential for stimulation of cell renewal. The platelets are then extracted using a syringe and injected back into the scalp. This process will stimulate the hair follicle and encourage regrowth of the hair.
This is a highly skilled technique and should only be carried out by a medical professional.

Does it hurt?
You may experience some sensitivity at the point of injection. Where larger areas are being treated, this may feel a little more tender. At VIVA Skin Clinics, we take patient comfort very seriously and will do all we can to ensure that any sensitivity is minimised. This may be through the use of numbing cream to help ease any discomfort.
Are there any side effects?
As the content of the injection is taken from your own blood supply, the side effects are minimal. These tend to be slight stinging, tenderness or bruising at the point of application, or in some cases (though rare) some temporary bleeding at the site of the injection
What result can I expect?
The effects of PRP for the treatment of hair loss can vary. Recent studies have shown some excellent results, with improvements to both hair diameter and density. The aim of this treatment is restore lost or thinning hair and encourage regrowth without having to undergo a full surgical hair transplant. Final results will vary depending on your condition and the result of your first treatment. You will likely need a number of sessions to achieve the expected result, and maintenance treatments every 3-6 months until the desired result is achieved.
Is it safe?
This treatment should only be administered by a medical professional. The PRP itself contains platelets from your own blood supply. Therefore, no foreign substances are being injected into your body which means the risks associated with this treatment are very low.
