How to treat your skin differently in Autumn

As summer draws to a close and we welcome the autumn months, a few things might spring to mind: wrapping up in warm jumpers, sipping pumpkin spiced lattes, and the ever so important decision of what Halloween costume to invest in. But one thing that might not be on your mind is how you are going to look after your Autumn skin…

Exfoliate

The summer months can be very harsh on the skin, and this combined with the dry air and cold temperatures of autumn can cause your complexion to feel dry and damaged.

Although exfoliation may seem severe on already damaged skin, it’s actually a great way of removing those top layers of dead skin cells to reveal a healthy, bright and clear complexion.

There is an expansive variety of products out there to suit every skin type so it is worth doing some research into what kind of exfoliator will work best for you. If your skin is particularly sensitive, opt for a very light exfoliator as not to agitate the surface with too much abrasion.

 

Moisturise

Dryness, flakiness and tightness are things many of us experience in autumn and winter due to cold temperatures and a change in humidity levels. It can be distressing for your complexion and you may notice your skin looking more tired and dull.

It is imperative to the health of your skin that your moisturise daily, once following your morning cleanse, and once following your evening cleanse. Even if you suffer from oily skin, moisturising is vital; often these types of complexions overproduce oil due to being fundamentally dehydrated. Choose a lighter cream for the morning and something more rich to work whilst you sleep.

It’s also time to start carrying around a trusty lip balm wherever you go. It’s a must for avoiding chapped, sore lips!

 

Prepare for breakouts

The change in weather can make your skin pretty unhappy and can unfortunately be a catalyst for a breakout of acne. Using a calming weekly face mask can be a useful preventative measure, plus an opportunity to relax and unwind! It may be tempting to overtreat the face with lotions and potions, but be careful to not to do too much as this will irritate the skin further.
