Botox London

What is Botox?

Botulinum Toxin – otherwise known as Botox – is a brand of anti-wrinkle injection first licensed for cosmetic use in the early 2000s. Since its introduction to the aesthetic market, various competitor brands of Botulinum Toxin have been developed, including Dysport, Azzalure, and Bocouture.

“Botox and other brands of anti-wrinkle injections are most commonly used to improve and prevent the appearance of forehead lines, frown and smile lines, and crow’s feet.”

What is Botox used for?

Traditionally, anti-wrinkle injections are used for precisely what they say on the tin: banishing wrinkles and fine lines. Products such as Botulinum Toxin (a.k.a. Botox) and Azzalure can be injected to temporarily relax various muscles of the face and, in turn, soften lines and wrinkles. They have become increasingly popular over recent years, amongst both more mature clientele who wish to reverse the natural signs of ageing, and with a younger clientele as a preventative measure.

Botox is the brand of anti-wrinkle injection we use at VIVA Skin Clinics. It has a multitude of benefits which make it an incredibly popular treatment. One beneficial factor is that in trained hands, it is a very quick and simple non-invasive treatment to administer. Appointments can take as little as 15 minutes (not including the mandatory consultation).

Botox treatments also require little to no downtime, with minimal to zero swelling or bruising, which makes it a very convenient procedure for those with busy schedules. Patients are able to continue with day-to-day activities almost immediately, and it is fairly common for us to see professionals booking lunchtime appointments so they can return to their diary immediately afterwards.

Botox is also considered a very safe procedure when carried out by an experienced specialist. Whilst there are potential side-effects and risks – as there are with any type of aesthetic treatment, from chemical peels to injectables – these are extremely rare, and they will always be discussed with you prior to treatment so you’re able to ask any questions.

Unlike dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections do not fulfill their full potential immediately. Whilst results are quick to take effect, patients should expect to see the true difference within around 2 weeks. From thereon out, results typically last 3-4 months. For those who have been treated with Botox before or know that they would like to maintain their results over a longer time period, we do offer a discount for bulk-bookings.

A perhaps surprising advantage of Botox is that it is a very versatile product. Whilst it is traditionally administered to treat wrinkles and fine lines, it can also be used to relax the upper lip muscle and tackle a ‘gummy smile’ (this happens when the upper lip muscle naturally elevates when smiling, exposing the gum above the teeth), as well as for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). In fact, Botox is regularly administered by the NHS for non-cosmetic reasons.

If you would like to arrange a personal consultation with our lip enhancement specialist, Dr. Rupert, please call us on 02037 332199 or email bookings@vivaskinclinics.com

Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used in conjunction with other treatments, such as dermal fillers, as part of a package treatment. At VIVA, we pride ourselves on taking an holistic approach to treatment and therefore offering bespoke treatment plans.

Botox is also a great option for men, and we offer the affectionately known ‘Bro-tox’ at all our clinics. Over time, most men develop wrinkles on their forehead and around the eyes. For instance, a deep frown line is very common, often caused by years of computer use and continuous squinting. ‘Bro-tox’ (i.e. Botox for men) can be used to smooth out these unwanted lines to produce a more rejuvenated, refreshed appearance. Men typically require a higher dosage of anti-wrinkle injection than women to achieve the same results, but this is something you will discuss during your consultation with one of our Aesthetic Artists.

Is Botox Right for Me?

At VIVA Skin Clinics, we believe in anti-wrinkle injection techniques that achieve seamless results and enhance natural beauty. We take an holistic approach to aesthetics and believe that ageing is something to be celebrated and enjoyed, not hidden or ‘fixed’, which is why we will never advise a treatment unless we think it is right for you. Even then, we never over-treat, and with years of experience, our doctors will be able to assist with which measurements are best for your goals.

We also take into account your wider lifestyle and how this might affect both the longevity of your treatment and your skin condition in the future. You’ll be asked to complete a short, confidential questionnaire, which will ask about your sleep patterns, whether you smoke, how often you drink, the level of stress in your life – factors which can all negatively impact a healthy complexion. If, following your mandatory consultation, your VIVA Aesthetic Artist believes Botox is the right choice for you, then you can both agree to proceed to treatment.

If you’re happy with your complexion and loving the skin you’re in, then great! But if not, we can help to reflect the person you feel inside, on the outside. We’re all about confidence.

Where can Botox be used?

At VIVA Skin Clinics, we use Botox to treat the following areas.

We also offer a free Botox top-up two weeks subsequent to your initial treatment. Please get in touch with our bookings team or enquire at reception to learn more.

  • Forehead lines- The most common area that Botox is used to treat, the forehead develops a number of various wrinkles over time. Both the vertical and the horizontal lines are the product of expression, genetics, and lifestyle. Injections work to relax the muscles that cause both lines and wrinkles, resulting in a smoother, flatter skin texture.
  • Crow’s feet- Otherwise known as ‘laughter lines’, these develop as a result of repeated squinting, laughing, or similar skin movement around the eye. They can also occur as a result of dryness, given that the skin around the eye excretes the least oil. By injecting Botox here, the muscles at the corner of the eye are relaxed, which in turns smooths the skin out for a tighter appearance.
  • Eyebrow lift- To treat frown lines between the eyebrows and help to elevate the height of the brow area, for a more wide-awake appearance. This is particularly popular amongst mature clients whose brows are naturally beginning to droop.
  • Lip Flip- As opposed to Lip Fillers which add volume to the lips, the Botox ‘Lip Flip’ works by relaxing the orbicularis oris muscle, effectively ‘rolling’ the lip line out and making them appear larger. This subtly produces a fuller pout.
  • Nose Wrinkles- Also known as ‘bunny lines’, nose wrinkles appear with age and as the result of persistent repeated skin movement. Botox can be injected either side of the nose to target these wrinkles directly.
  • Fine under-eye wrinkles- Here, we are able to soften those super-fine under eye wrinkles by relaxing the muscles around the eye.
  • Down-facing smiles- The corners of the mouth are naturally down-tilted, neutral, or up-tilted. By utilising anti-wrinkle injections, our doctors are able to create a more lifted appearance at each corner of the mouth and combat any sad smiles or drooping.
  • Dimpled chins- Also known as ‘chin-tox’, Botox injections to the chin can help give it a smoother, less dimpled appearance.
  • Preventative Botox- In small doses, Botox and other anti-wrinkle injections can be used to prevent the development of lines and wrinkles.

This is because the treatment relaxes the muscles and thus the repeated stretching, lifting, or wrinkling of the skin, halting wrinkles from occurring or deepening any further.

  • Jaw slimming- Also known as a masseter treatment, administering Botox to patients with a square jaw relaxes the muscles which produce the blocky appearance, effectively slimming down the lower-face for a softer oval shape.
  • Platysmal Bands- As we age, the vertical strips of muscle that stand out from our neck can thicken and become increasingly visible. This muscle is known as the Platysmal Band. Botox can be injected to release tension and decrease its appearance.
  • Gummy smiles- For some individuals, the upper lip muscle naturally elevates above the top teeth when they smile, exposing their gums for what is colloquially known as a ‘gummy smile’. Some people feel their gums are too prominent, which can cause confidence issues, and so anti-wrinkle injections can be used to relax the muscles around the mouth that are causing excess retraction of the lips.
  • Nefertiti Neck Lift- The Nefertiti Neck Lift uses precise Botox injections to relax the lower face. This redistributes the muscular composition of the face, pulling it upwards to create a lifted effect and smoother, softer neck texture.
  • Teeth grinding- Grinding of the teeth at night or excessive chewing of gum causes over-activity of the masseter (chewing) muscle, which in some cases can cause muscles to become enlarged, making the jaw appear wide and square. Botox injections work to soften the jawline and help with teeth grinding problems.
  • Excess sweating (hyperhidrosis)- Excess sweating can be caused by anything from genes and environment to anxiety and overactive thyroid glands. During this quick, pain-free procedure, we inject Botox into precise areas of the armpit to relieve this.
  • Baby Botox- Baby Botox’ is the term coined to describe smaller doses of Botox for less impactful results. This is particularly beneficial for younger clients who are only now beginning to see the development of natural lines, and aren’t yet ready for a full Botox treatment. Baby Botox is also great for those who are nervous about trying anti-wrinkle injections, and would like to test the water first.

FAQ

How long do Botox results last?

Generally Botox and anti-wrinkle results can be expected to last 3-4 months. However, this can vary slightly from person to person.

How long does it take to notice results?

The results of Botox injection take up to two weeks to take full effect. After this time, you are welcome to come back to our clinic for a free top-up if required.

Which aesthetic artist can I see for Botox treatment?

Both our lead clinician, Dr Rupert, and Aesthetic Artist, Dr Alice, offer Botox injections. Dr Rupert offers treatment at all of our clinics and Dr Alice offers services at our flagship King’s Road location.

Does it hurt?

It can feel a little uncomfortable, but the techniques we use at VIVA mean the experience is as pain-free as possible. We also apply numbing cream to the treatment area for added comfort.

Is there any aftercare involved following a Botox treatment?

The most important thing to remember post-treatment is not to rub or massage the area for 4 hours following your appointment. You may experience slight bruising in the area, which is completely normal. Anti-wrinkle injections start working within 3 days, however it usually takes around 2 weeks to see the full results.

It is also recommended that you avoid applying make-up to the treated area for 6 hours following treatment. Please also avoid heat related environments such as saunas, steam rooms, and Jacuzzis, and excess exercise for a 48-hour period.

How much does a Botox treatment cost?

Our Botox prices are as follows:

  • 1 area: £200
  • 2 areas: £285
  • 3 areas: £350

Treatments for a gummy smile, lip flips, down-facing smiles, dimpled chins, and preventative anti-wrinkle injections start at £200, whilst our treatments for square-shaped jaws, hyperhidrosis, Platysmal Bands, and jawline slimming start at £400. Our Nefertiti neck lift treatment starts at £450.

What is the difference between Botox and dermal fillers?

BOTOX ® is in fact a brand of anti-wrinkle injection, rather than the name of the product itself. Botox is used to temporarily relax muscles of the face. This in turn, softens fine lines and wrinkles.

Whilst Anti-Wrinkle Injections are used to relax the muscles, dermal fillers are used to effectively ‘fill in’ an area of the face to restore volume, improve symmetry, reduce the natural signs of ageing, and tweak perceived imperfections.

How long does a Botox procedure take?

Treatment time will depend on which particular treatment you opt for, but generally they take 15-30 minutes.
