What is the difference between Botox and fillers?

BOTOX ® is in fact a brand of Anti-Wrinkle Injection, rather than the name of the product itself. Botulinum Toxin (commonly shortened and referred to as Botox) is used to temporarily relax muscles of the face. In turn this softens fine lines and wrinkles.

It is most commonly used to improve and prevent the appearance of forehead, frown and smile lines, as well as crow’s feet. There are other more advanced uses of Botox such as treating sweating (hyperhidrosis) or reducing the appearance of a Gummy Smile. You can find these treatments on our price list.

Whilst Anti-Wrinkle Injections are used to relax the muscles, Dermal Fillers are used to effectively ‘fill in’.

Dermal Fillers are a fabulous way of subtly reducing the natural signs of ageing, restoring volume, improving symmetry and fine tuning and tweaking imperfections.

Dermal Filler contains Hyaluronic acid, which is great for your skin. You may have heard of it being championed in skin creams, but a touch beneath the top layer of the skin helps to hydrate and improve tone, texture and structure, so ideal for anti-aging. Common areas for treatment are cheeks, eye bags, tear troughs, nose-to-mouth lines (nasolabial), chins, jawlines and lips.

If you’re unsure of treatment, don’t worry; we always take a holistic approach to treating yourself and your skin, and we believe in wellness that works (reflecting the person you feel on the inside, on the outside). Our doctors will give you sound advice during consultation and help you to make an informed decision about treatment.

Can I have treatment on the same day as my consultation?

Yes – every client must have a thorough consultation with one of our doctors. We take a conservative approach and divide treatments into sessions. If both yourself and your doctor are happy to proceed on the day, then you are more than welcome to have treatment in the same appointment. Sometimes we will recommend you to rebook for treatment in a subsequent session.

What side effects can I expect after treatment?

Non-Surgical Aesthetic treatments are very safe and our Aesthetic Artists are incredibly highly-trained, but no treatment comes completely risk-free. The skills and techniques used by our Aesthetic Artists mean side effects are much less likely, but it is completely normal to experience some slight swelling/redness/bruising around the treated area.

This is an extremely common side effect which will subside in most cases very quickly, although in rare cases can last up to 10 days. There is a settle-in period for the product, so you may notice small bumps or inconsistencies following dermal filler treatment. Again, this is entirely normal and will subside within two weeks.

How long do I need to wait before I see results?

Aside from the settle-in period during which your results will improve over a week or so, Dermal Filler results are immediate. Botox and Anti-Wrinkle injections takes a little longer to take effect and results will be achieved within 10-14 days.

Do I need a consultation?

Yes. Consultations are an incredibly important part of the treatment process for both patient and practitioner. Not only does this enable our Aesthetic Artists to offer their honest and expert opinions, but it also allows both parties to listen. There is a lot of information available regarding aesthetic treatments, and the consultations provide a calming and open environment in order to discuss all of the fine details. The education process for us is as important as the procedures.

How long will treatment take?

Treatment time will depend on the type of procedure you are having. In general, Botox and Anti-Wrinkle appointments will last up to 30 minutes, while Dermal Filler appointments will take 30-60 minutes.

The majority of this time is spent on preparation, capturing before and after imagery, time for numbing cream to take effect and providing the information necessary so that both parties are happy to proceed.

The actual time carrying out the procedure is reassuringly a lot less. If you are having multiple treatments this may need to be split into sessions – this will be discussed during your consultation.

Does it hurt?

You may experience a little discomfort during treatment but the techniques we use are designed to minimise this as much as possible. We also use numbing cream for your comfort.

What if I don’t know which treatment I should get?

If you are unsure which treatment would be best for you, don’t worry. Taking a holistic approach to aesthetics, our team will discuss your concerns and goals with you whilst also taking into account your lifestyle and how this might affect your skin. Following this, one of our Aesthetic Artists will give you expert and honest advice during your consultation, helping you make an informed decision about treatment.

What products do you use?

At VIVA Skin Clinics we only use the highest quality, most trialled and rigorously tested products. We use Botox® and the Juvederm VYCROSS range. The exact product within the VYCROSS range used will be dependant on your treatment and will be discussed during consultation.

How long is recovery time?

Downtime is very minimal and you should be able to get on with most normal activities straight after treatment. There are some activities you should avoid in the 48 hours that follow treatment – these are outlined in our aftercare advice.

Botox/Anti-Wrinkle aftercare
• Dermal Filler aftercare
• Skin treatment aftercare

It’s normal to experience some bruising/swelling/redness for a few days after treatment. Very occasionally this can last up to 2 weeks. If you have a special event coming up, we recommend allowing at least 4 weeks post-treatment.

How do I get a last minute appointment?

We have a high number of bookings and it is always best to book in advance to avoid disappointment. However, we do sometimes have last minute appointments available. You can schedule last minute appointments online here. Alternatively, you can call us on 02037 332199.

All bookings will require a deposit of £50 to secure your appointment.

Can I travel after treatment?

Yes, you are able to travel after treatment. We recommend allowing 48 hours before flying.

I need to reschedule my appointment. Will I lose my deposit and be charged again?

If you wish to reschedule 48 hours prior to your appointment, your £50 deposit will be kept on file and carried over to secure your new appointment.

If you reschedule any later than the 48 hour notice period, you will lose your deposit and a new deposit of £50 will be required to make another appointment.

Do you offer finance options?

We don’t offer finance options at our clinic. All treatment costs need to be paid for in full on the day of your appointment. If you are having multiple treatments, this can sometimes be split into sessions and this will effectively split the cost.

Where are you located?

All of our locations are based in London, check our clinics page to view our locations.

Do you use numbing cream?

Yes – for all Dermal Filler treatments, local anaesthetic is applied for the comfort of our clients.

Do I need to shave my beard before treatment?

If you have facial hair and are joining us for a Jawline Enhancement or Chin Enhancement, please shave prior to treatment. This is because to achieve the best results we need to clearly see all facial contours when treating the area.

Dermal Filler Treatment Aftercare

You may notice some slight swelling, redness or bruising around the treated area; this is completely normal and should settle within a week. It is important to try not to massage or scratch the area post treatment. In the 24-hour period after your visit to the clinic we advise against alcohol consumption, strenuous exercise, wearing make-up on the area and contact with direct sunlight. Please also avoid heat related environments such as sauna, steam room and Jacuzzis for a 48-hour period following your appointment. Facial massages should be avoided for a 2-week period. After this, downtime is minimal and you are able to return to your normal day-to-day activities.

Botox Treatment Aftercare

The most important thing to remember post treatment is not to rub or massage the area for 4 hours following your appointment. It is therefore advised not to fall asleep on your front to allow the Botox to settle. It is also important to note that you may experience slight bruising in the area, which is normal. Botox usually takes around 7-10 days for effects to come on and 2 weeks to produce maximum desired results. It is also recommended that you avoid strenuous exercise and applying makeup in the 4-5 hours following treatment. Please also avoid heat related environments such as sauna, steam room and Jacuzzis for a 48-hour period.

Chemical Peel Aftercare

After your chemical peel it is normal to experience some skin sensitivity and you can expect the skin to flake for up to 10 days after treatment. It is therefore important that you follow the skin care routine our doctor set out for you in clinic. You should also treat your skin gently and avoid picking or trying to remove any peeling. Avoid the use of scrubs or skin masks while skin is peeling- instead you can use a hydrating product such as Obagi Hydrate, which will help ease any discomfort (please as your practitioner about this in clinc). During the peeling process you should also stay out of the sun and wear SPF factor 50 when outdoors. You should avoid any heat related environments such as sauna, steam room and Jacuzzis for a 7- day period and sunbathing for 2 weeks post procedure. No glycolic acid/resurfacing/retinol products are to be used for a 2-week period both before and after your chemical peel.
