Laser hair removal FAQ:

Q: What is laser hair removal?

A: Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that uses laser technology to target and remove unwanted hair from various parts of the body. The laser emits concentrated light energy, which is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles, damaging them and inhibiting future hair growth.

Q: How does laser hair removal work?

A: During the procedure, a laser device emits a concentrated beam of light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles. This light energy is converted into heat, which damages the follicles and prevents or delays future hair growth in the treated area.

Q: Is laser hair removal permanent?

A: Laser hair removal can lead to long-lasting hair reduction, but it’s not always considered permanent. Multiple sessions are usually required to target all hair follicles in different growth cycles. The results can vary depending on factors like hair color, skin type, and hormonal influences.

Q: Is laser hair removal safe?

A: When performed by a trained professional, laser hair removal is generally safe. However, there may be some potential side effects, such as temporary redness, swelling, or skin irritation in the treated area. It’s important to follow pre- and post-treatment care instructions to minimize risks.

Q: Which areas of the body can be treated with laser hair removal?

A: Laser hair removal can be used on various body areas, including the face, neck, arms, underarms, chest, back, bikini line, and legs. It’s essential to consult with a professional to determine if laser hair removal is suitable for the specific area you wish to treat.

Q: Does laser hair removal work for all hair colors and skin types?

A: Laser hair removal is generally most effective for people with light skin and dark hair because the laser targets the pigment in the hair follicles. However, advancements in technology have made it possible to treat a wider range of skin tones and hair colors. It’s best to consult with a professional to assess your eligibility.

Q: Is laser hair removal painful?

A: Laser hair removal may cause some discomfort or a mild stinging sensation during the procedure. However, most people tolerate it well. The sensation can vary depending on individual pain tolerance, the treated area, and the laser system used. Topical numbing creams can be applied to minimize any potential discomfort.

Q: How many laser hair removal sessions are needed?

A: The number of sessions required for optimal results can vary depending on factors like hair type, color, and the area being treated. Typically, multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart are necessary to target hair follicles in different growth cycles. On average, 6-8 sessions may be recommended.

Q: Are there any pre-treatment preparations required?

A: Prior to your laser hair removal session, you may be advised to avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, waxing, and plucking for a few weeks. Shaving the treatment area a day or two before the session is usually recommended to ensure the laser targets the hair follicles effectively.

Q: Are there any post-treatment care instructions to follow?

A: After laser hair removal, you may experience some temporary redness, swelling, or skin sensitivity. It’s important to protect the treated area from sun exposure, avoid hot baths or showers, and refrain from using harsh skincare products or exfoliants for a few days. Your provider will provide specific instructions based on your situation.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

No. Laser hair removal can lead to long-term hair reduction, but it’s not always considered permanent. The procedure targets and damages the hair follicles, which inhibits or delays future hair growth. However, some follicles may only be damaged and not completely destroyed, allowing for the possibility of hair regrowth over time. The effectiveness of laser hair removal can vary depending on factors such as hair color, skin type, hormonal influences, and individual response to treatment.

How much is laser hair removal?

We have all of our laser prices on our website under pricing on the main menu.

Do I need a patch test? If so how much is it?

Yes we require a patch test at VIVA, the cost is £50 which goes toward the cost of your treatment.

Can I go out in the sun after laser?

After laser hair removal, it’s generally recommended to avoid direct sun exposure for a period of time. The treated skin may be more sensitive and prone to sunburn. Sun exposure can also increase the risk of complications such as hyperpigmentation or changes in skin color. We advise wearing SPF factor 50 and avoiding tanning beds as well as sun exposure to the treated area. At VIVA we only use ND YAG and ALEXANDRITE for laser, we do not use IPL which can cause more sensitivity to sun post treatment.

However, for optimal and longer-lasting results, a series of treatments is typically recommended. The number of sessions may vary depending on your skin condition and desired outcome.

 Q.Can I wear makeup after a HydraFacial?

A: It’s generally recommended to avoid applying makeup immediately after a HydraFacial to allow the skin to fully absorb the benefits of the treatment. However, you can usually resume wearing makeup within a few hours after the session if desired.

Q. How long do the results of HydraFacial last?

A: The duration of HydraFacial results can vary depending on individual factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and skincare routine. Typically, results can last for several weeks, and regular maintenance sessions every 4-6 weeks are often recommended to sustain the benefits.
